    Abstract

BackgroundAntibiotic resistance can contribute to various health problems. The increasing prevalence of bacterial overgrowth in respiratory tract infections (BPH) in recent years and a growing number of new antibacterial drugs are needed to prevent and treat bacterial infections. Antibiotic resistance can be induced by infection-causing pathogens, but the effects of antibiotic-resistant bacteria are still unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of antibiotics in antimicrobial resistance in bacterial overgrowth in patients with BPH. Methods

Materials and methodsA prospective observational study was conducted in patients with acute bacterial exacerbation (ABE) and bacterial overgrowth in the respiratory tract (BPH). Subjects received one of the following antibiotic-sensitive and antibiotic-resistant bacteria-specific antimicrobial agents: amoxicillin, clarithromycin, doxycycline, and erythromycin. A total of 112 patients with acute bacterial exacerbation were enrolled in the study (n = 88). Patients were evaluated for their antibiotic-resistant status, their demographic data, and clinical and laboratory data of the patients. The antibiotic-resistant bacteria were determined by PCR and MALDI-TOF analysis.

ResultsThe mean age was 39.0 ± 6.5 years (SD ± 7.0) in the patients with ABE (n = 88). The majority (70.2%) had normal chest radiography, (100%), and clinical and laboratory data of the patients. Bacterial overgrowth was the most prevalent condition in the patients with ABE and bacterial overgrowth in the patients with BPH (n = 88). There were no significant differences in the antibiotic-resistant status of the patients with bacterial overgrowth in the patients with ABE compared to the patients without ABE (P = 0.9). Antibiotic resistance was detected in 88% (62/89) of patients with bacterial overgrowth and in 93% (66/89) of patients with ABE (P = 0.9).

ConclusionAntibiotic resistance is common in bacterial overgrowth in the respiratory tract. Antibiotic resistance is a serious problem that can cause many health problems. Antibiotic-resistant bacteria can be the cause of respiratory tract infections. The antibiotic resistance of bacterial overgrowth in the respiratory tract is still unknown. Antibiotic resistance is a problem that can contribute to various health problems. Therefore, the need for antibiotics to control bacterial overgrowth in the respiratory tract is still unclear.
